Superb tune selection but some of the mixing is terrible, shame really, i'm not slating Top Buzz but it's not a lesson in crispness.
In old skool hardcore terms, commonly discussed and regarded as one of the finest live sets ever performed. Top Buzz, and Jason Kaye in particular, could always weave his way through genres of tracks, but the frequency with which he does it in this live set is incredible.Top Buzz were last on at West Point given that they had seen the New Year in at Big Bad Head before scooting across to Exeter - wonder where they got their energy from?!But seriously, this is a live set for the purists, from the early commercialism of Blame to stompy European techno flavours of Leo Anibaldi. A pattern of classic hardcore standards through the middle, to a set end that, between tracks of MCing, doesn't hide its spontaneity, with Mad P seemingly keen to wind up the set but swayed by a baying Fantazia crowd to encourage Jason Kaye to spin one or two more - which he duly does. And what tracks to conclude with, notably 2 Boasters, a breakdown mix into Olympia then a final curtain call of Frequency's 'Kiss The Sky'.And even then the fun isn't over, as another MC jumps on the mic, followed by, seemingly, West Point's Head of Security, ushering away pie-eyed ravers into the 5am light of the new year of 1992.An absolute classic that hasn't aged, although few who were of the era will believe that 18 years has passed since such a defining moment of rave was recorded. Many will agree that this was the real cusp of hardcore, and certainly as little as 12 months later the darkness (hinted at so strongly in the closing track of the set) had evolped the rave scene, and it was never to be the same again.
